Let’s Talk Vitamic C!

I’m at that stage in my life where I’m looking at products with anti-ageing ingredients. I am 27 years of age, and i’ve noticed that my skin has lost its elasticity and volume over the course of two years! The only control I have to slow down the process of my skin ageing, is to protect it using effective ingredients. There are so many factors that can determine the speed of your skin ageing as fast. I’ve learnt from a skincare clinic in London, called Eudelo, many interesting facts about how to improve your skin and wellbeing. Their blog is a great read, and based on what I’ve read so far, I know for sure I need to cut down on the amount of cakes I consume! AND Bubble Tea! (Damn, it tastes so good). Nevertheless, it’s not only the skin that’s a factor which makes your face appear more maturer. Did you know oxygen plays an important role to supplying nutrients to your skin. Not only that, our facial bone structure deteriorates as we age, having an effect on our overall appearance. So, how can we slow this down? I turn to...Vitamin C.

In this experiment, I have tested two products containing a high dose of Vitamin C & Hyaluronic Acid. The first product I tried was by Kiehl’s, called Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate. The other product was by Vichy, called LiftActiv Vitamin C Skin Brightening Corrector. I’ve selected these two brands as I trust them through using majority of their products. By the end of this experiment, I hope my review will be helpful for you to decide which product would be more efficacious for your skin.

Before I begin to review each product, I would like to clarify that these reviews are based on my own personal experience. This post is not sponsored in any way. Please take into consideration that each persons skin is different and can tolerate different levels of ingredients. The two products were used for a month with a space gap of one month. This amount of time will reveal the difference it has made to my skin as it renews itself every 28 days. This is what I’ve found:

This product has recently been reformulated, increasing the percentage of Vitamin C by 2.5%, with added Hyaluronic Acid. This has made the texture of the new formula much more smoother than the last, making my skin feel supple. It’s designed for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Initially, when applying one pump for the first time, I felt a warm, tingly sensation on the skin surface. I found out that this is perfectly normal, as the formula contains active ingredients.
Using this as a day serum, I felt protected from the thickness of the formula; helping to fight against the environmental aggressors. Not only that, this formula is designed to drip-feed Vitamin C to the bottom layers of the skin for approximately 8 hours. With this in mind, I did receive many compliments throughout the days about how my skin is glowing! But even better, I noticed throughout the weeks that the health of my skin improved dramatically. Post-acne marks disappeared much quicker, my pores reduced in size, AND last but not least, my smile lines were reduced! What a revelation! For those reasons, I would highly recommend this product to anyone.
For those who are wondering whether if it’s any good to use before your makeup - the answer is…Yes! It makes your skin feel as if you have applied a primer, so your foundation sits on more smoothly. One point I’d like to raise is that I found more breakouts appear on my skin when I wore a full-face of makeup. I’m assuming that the formula needs to breathe through the skin, which primarily is trapped under the layers of makeup. But on a positive note, my makeup stayed on for hours!
Reaching to the near end of the month, I continued using the product, wearing only my daily minimal makeup. It was until then I began noticing a few small bumps which were deeply embedded under my skin. To help my skin become clearer again, I let my skin rest and renew itself for another month. As I intend to use Vitamin C in my routine for a long time, I would like to use a product that I know won’t cause skin problems. Hence, I decided to look into other Vitamin C formula’s, finding and then having tried Vichy’s LiftActiv Vitamin C.

After a months rest, I began to use Vichy’s LiftActiv Vitamin C. This product retails at £30 for a 10ml bottle. You know when they say ‘good things come in small packages’, well, this is a great example. The consistency of the formula is almost like water, and has a pipette applicator to drop onto the skin. The first time I used this product, I applied 3-4 drops one evening, and assumed I was to wait 2 weeks to see noticeable results. My god was I wrong! The ‘Brightening Corrector’ does what it is described to be. The following day I was glowing, where friends even noticed my skin being luminous! I was even asked what foundation I was wearing, but I was wearing none! Now thats a compliment! This product uses a combination of ingredients, including 15% of Pure Vitamin C, to combat oxidative stress. It’s an anti-ageing product, designed to brighten and correct the skin. I’ve turned to use this product to apply 4 times a week. It’s a powerful little thing, that is great value for money for the results it delivers. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to see overnight results for brighter looking skin.

After a months use, I’ve not witnessed an improvement of reduced pore size, but my post-acne marks have slowly improved. Perhaps not as quick as Kiehl’s product either. After all, I’ve now continued to use Vichy’s product as my Vitamin C formula in my skincare routine. It will provide me with the consistent radiance and anti-ageing benefits that I require without causing breakouts. Overall, both products are fantastic in their own way. I hope this has been a helpful read.  A few words before you decide which formula to buy. Consider what your main goal is for your skin, and I would also recommend to get your hands on a few samples before you purchase your product!

Remember, even if your not looking into products with anti-ageing benefits, Vitamin C is an effective ingredient to prevent and protect your skin; slowing down the ageing process. You know what they say - ‘Prevention is better than cure!’.
